Saturday night, May 2nd, the Opening Reception of the Tuesday Painters Annual Spring Show was held amidst the festivities of the second day of the La Habra Citrus Fair. Earlier before the official opening at 6 p.m., some artists of the La Habra Art Gallery set up a temporary wall for a Collaborative Art Activity for the Citrus Fair visitors. Some of the children who participated in the Collaborative Art Activity took time to visit and pose with the Tuesday Painters artists.
This year’s show was dedicated to Barbara McLaughlin, the teacher who started the Tuesday painting group and the annual art show twenty years ago for her students. She passed away on July 2014 but the group carried on the tradition of Tuesday meetings and annual shows. She would have enjoyed the sub sandwiches provided so generously by Jersey Mike’s and of course the treats brought by her friends. She would have smiled at the high schoolers, who have been coming to the receptions since early childhood, offering cleanup and dishwashing services. Members of Barbara’s family were present when we presented a photo and tribute to the galleries permanent collection. The Tuesday Painters are glad to be an active group that adds to the art presence in our La Habra community. Anyone is welcome to to paint with the Tuesday Painters. They meet at the gallery every Tuesday from 10 am – 2 pm.
