Next Sunday, April 19, 2015 is the Closing Reception for the Light and Shadow Photo Exhibit. A casual musical event will follow after the reception at 8 p.m. featuring Duets with Mat Relox. Mat is a very talented artist who exhibited at the gallery in November 2014. He is also a musician and a poet. He will show his musical talents together with other performers, Mon Concepcion, Jayke Reyes, Joy Marivic, Luz Spanks, Gabe Real, Rey & Jess, and Vic Lelis. The event has a suggested donation of $10.
Mat Relox is contemporary Mangyan/Filipino artist who is best known for capturing the exotic and distinct lifestyle of his people — the peace-loving Mangyan tribe in Mindoro, Philippines.
An exceptionally gifted painter, muralist, and sculptor, Relox loads his canvas with generous strokes of the Mangyan life as he knows it firsthand. He remembers, recreates, paints and immortalizes the images of the Mangyan people, their temperament, their lifestyle and original habitat with cunning accuracy.
He is a master of a variety of mediums, including pastel, pen and ink and watercolor. Relox continues with his artistic vision of elevating the Mangyan life through the power of his works, even as he regularly reaps honors in art competitions locally and nationwide, the most recent of which was an honorable mention at the Winter Juried Art show in Pittsburgh, California.
