As a child, when asked the question, “What are you going to be when you grow up? I proclaimed confidently, “I’m going to be an ARTIST!” I would have classmates pose for portraits at recess and always had more doodles on the paper than notes in high school. I received my BA in Fine Arts from Biola University in La Mirada in 1989 and married my wonderful husband, Randy, the same year. Through college I managed the Poster Room and was a cake decorator for Lucky supermarket. After the birth of our first child, Lauren, I was able to be a free-lance artist and illustrated 7 children’s books as well as textile design for Lighthouse Manufacturers.
After overcoming intense anxiety, I discovered that I enjoy teaching art to children at Whittier Christian Elementary and later to adults through Grumbacher painting classes at Michaels (where I have made some fabulous friends).
I love that painting teaches you to really SEE the gorgeous subtleties of colors in shadows, and it allows you the privilege of exercising God’s attribute of creativity.
I have received 2 Honorable Mention awards from the La Mirada Art Gallery and Whittier Area Community Church juried shows and exhibited at Biola University and La Habra Community Art Gallery. Over the years I have created numerous commissioned murals, portraits, logos, and landscapes.
Right now I feel that childhood proclamation is truly being fulfilled. I have the time and desire to render how I see the world using the tools of pencil, water color, acrylic, and oils.
